Yasumichi Morita's "Life is Flower": A Porcelain Masterpiece

Artistic Expression Meets Porcelain Craftsmanship in this A' Luxury Design Award Winner

Yasumichi Morita's inspiration for "Life is Flower" came from the breath of "Life". He expressed the immutable beauty of mysterious and strong formative arts using countless flowers and a skull, utilizing the art and wisdom of porcelain that Lladró has developed over ages. The designer's wish was to spread happy days to people of the world by overlapping a happy future full of bright hopes and beautiful dreams with the flowers.

"Life is Flower" is a unique artistic exercise that displays its mysterious and everlasting beauty thanks to the sophisticated techniques and skills of a Lladró creation. With an amazing variety of porcelain flowers, this gorgeous blossoming speaks of a “future” of beautiful dreams and shining hopes. The piece, adorned with over 500 flowers in different tones of blue, is handmade petal by petal by artists at Lladró. It is a limited edition of 100 pieces in this decoration.

The realization of "Life is Flower" required meticulous craftsmanship. One craftworker makes approximately 600 flowers in three days. The modeled work is kilned at 1400 degrees Celsius for 24 hours. One artwork needs 7 days and 15 craftworkers for its completion. The size variation for the artwork is over 40. The final artwork measures W140mmxD200mmxH150mm, and including the basement, it measures W250mmxD350mmxH180mm.

The project started in June 2013 in Tokyo and finished in June 2014 in Valencia, Spain. It was exhibited in LLADRO EXHIBITION AT TOKYO AMERICAN CLUB, Tokyo, Japan in June 2014. The design process involved extensive research into the brand’s history and the art of porcelain. The biggest challenge was sticking numerous flowers on the round surface beautifully without adhesive, which was made possible by the craftsmanship of the artists.

"Life is Flower" is a testament to Yasumichi Morita's artistic prowess and Lladró's porcelain craftsmanship. It is an embodiment of the designer's vision of spreading happiness and hope through art.
